The Schlitterbahn water park is a family friendly destination about an hour south of Austin, Texas. Located in the heart of German country, this 65 acre water park is the go-to destination for local families during the heat of the Texas summer.
Unfortunately, when you go in November, the entire water park is closed. But given its location, it’s a great place to stay if you’re planning on hitting Wurstfest. The cabins feel almost like summer camp, which brings a peaceful feel to the entire property. There were insects in the rooms; ants, a cockroach or two, etc, but nothing too problematic or worth complaining about.
And, because it’s less than a mile walk to the Wurstfest venue, it’s full of other people attending the festival. Breakfast is included, and while it wasn’t all that tasty, it did include fresh fruit, mimosas and bloody marys. If you’re drinking beer all day, there’s a good chance you’re going to wake up with a hangover. The breakfast booze is a nice bonus to take the edge off and get you ready for another day at the festival. All in all, Schlitterbahn is a great little resort to visit in the off-season, as long as there’s beer nearby.
