Ravello, a tiny little town in the heart of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Nestled among the mountains, this village offers breathtaking views of the coast and the surrounding… never mind. I can’t write like that. It is a great little town, though, with great views. There’s not a whole lot to do here other than eat and drink. Since those are two things that I’m really good at, it’s not a bad place for me to hang out for a few days.
La Dolce Vitta, the hotel we’re staying at, isn’t really a hotel. It’s more like a small apartment building that’s privately owned. A fancy quadplex, from what I can tell. The unit is very nice and modern, with a living room, dining room, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and a bedroom. The kitchen appears to have everything you’d need to cook with, except ingredients. If we were in a cooking mood, we’d consider it, but since we just cooked in Venice (see previous post), I think we’re good. Besides, what’s the point of being on vacation if you have to make your own food?
The town square is a short walk away from our hotel, mostly uphill. It is at times like this that I think that I need to add more cardio into my workouts. But that idea passes as quickly as I catch my breath, so it never happens. There are 4 different cafes on a town square that’s half the size of a football field, and each one is usually busy. There are some other things to see and do in Ravello, like checking out Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufolo. Villa Cimbrone is a short walk from the town square; just follow the signs (and tourists) and you’ll find it. You’ll walk among statues and sculptures, through gardens that have been around longer than your family tree, and you’ll find yourself at the southern end of the villa, where an amazing view of the coast awaits. Seriously, it’s impressive. There are a half-dozen sculptured busts along the walkway that remind you that you are, in fact, in Italy (or Greece, perhaps), but the view is worth seeing. Walk around the villa and head back to the town square when you’re done. Along the way, grab a gelato. After all of that walking, you earned it.
